Unbe-leaf-able! Old Hunstanton Flower Festival delights

From Celebrating Books to Beach Picnics - the displays at St Mary's are blooming lovely!

From Celebrating Books to Beach Picnics - the displays at St Mary's are blooming lovely!

Before I even make it to St Mary's I overhear lots of compliments for this year's festival.

Emma, from Yorkshire, is buying some plants by the duck pond, and says she feels inspired, "This is exceptional, I've been before and this is my second time, it's great - there're loads of exhibitions in there, my favourite was My Garden and Harvest.

"And I've bought some flowers, which my partner will be happy about," she jokes.

Harvest

At the church door a couple come out smiling - I ask what they think, Richard tells me,  "I think it's better than ever, we come every year, and this is the best one we've ever seen.

"The displays are bigger, better and more inspired than ever before."

Beach Picnics

Finally inside, I'm also impressed.

St Mary's is full of people admiring the 26 arrangements - which are nothing short of delightful. This year's theme is 'A Few of our Favourite Things'.

Jean from Lincolnshire, is sitting on a pew, taking a moment to admire it all, "I think this is our fifth year. And it's just lovely, it never fails to please."

Sunset at Old Hunstanton

I wander around with my two year old, who's delighted with the scarecrow (Harvest).

We stop (along with other children) to admire the Tiger That Came To Tea (Celebrating Books).

Behind us a lady says, "I almost tripped on the step - looking at that display!" (My Garden).

Celebrating Books

I stop and chat to Gary Bocking, the festival coordinator, "I think it's amazing, when you look around at some of the things that people have created.

"The buzz when we are setting up is brilliant, everyone pitches in and we are like a family really - which is lovely."

And it's all been organised with a wedding on the Saturday afternoon too!

Walking

Outside Andrew Golding, from Goldings of Outwell near Wisbech, says "It's very pretty, very quaint, lovely setting - it's a beautiful little show and it's lovely to be here."

And the fun isn't over - it's off to the village hall, which, for the 3 days, has provided refreshments, stalls, games, a dog show and a fly past!

Congratulations to everyone involved, the 51st Flower Festival continues to bring joy to all who attend.

Blooming brilliant!
