The Borough Council announces 'exciting' programme of activities in Hunstanton
Most of the events and activities are free to participate (although entry into the famous Soap Box Derby does require an entry fee).
On Saturday, 13th June there will be the 3rd Walking Football Tournament on Hunstanton's Recreation Ground (11am to 2.30pm). Teams from across Norfolk will be participating aiming to de-throne the Sunny Cup holders, Norwich Soca Seniors. With the proceeds going to the mental health support charity, 8:56 Foundation, local MP James Wild will be attending as he is an advocate of mental health support.
On Saturday, 11th July there is an exciting new Beer & Gin Festival (11am-6pm) on the Green, where you can sample and purchase beer and gin from local Norfolk-based breweries and distilleries, with a Mocktail section for the children. Redwell Brewery will be manning a Fire Engine Bar and Askers Pizza will be providing delicious Dough Dogs and Pizza. There will also be various entertainment on all afternoon for the whole family.
On Sunday, 12th July there is movie madness on The Green with the Open Air Cinema. The large and spectacular LED screen will be showcasing three films throughout the afternoon and into the evening - Zootropolis 2 (12pm), a publicly voted film (3pm) and F1: The Movie (6pm).
On Thursday, 23rd July come along to the Peter Piper Picked some Litter activity (11am-3pm) with various competitions, workshops and educational fun to highlight the impact plastic has on our environment and beaches. There will be an 18 metre long sperm whale show-stopping centrepiece that will have washed up ashore that will enchant and engage. The group will also be launching Hunstanton’s first Borrow/Play/Return box.
Every Thursday, from the 23rd July, there will be a Family Fun Day throughout the Summer Holidays on The Green (11am-3pm). Strange Fascination Theatre will be putting on Hansel & Gretel and Little Red Riding Hood shows, whilst the traditional Punch & Judy will be back, as Umbrella Parties present ‘Lia’s Big Bubble Show’ with workshops, games and more.
Hunstanton Alive Oasis are also putting on Open Water Swim Safe Sessions on the 22nd July (11am-12.30pm) and 23rd July (12pm to 2.30pm). This is free for 7-14 year olds, although you must be able to swim 25m unaided. These are fun and structured sessions which include safety advice with qualified lifeguards, 30 minute in-water tuition and outdoor swimming, with kit provided. It is a worthwhile activity, especially when you consider there have been 22 drownings in Norfolk in the last 5 years.
On Thursday, 13th August (11am to 3pm), there is the Mad Tea Party on The Green. You can join Alice as she explores Wonderland. There will also be shows throughout the afternoon with puppetry, games and riddles, whilst there will be free Teacup rides and giant chess available. Characters from the world of Lewis Carroll will also be in attendance. People are encouraged to don their whackiest outfits as they are all mad here!
On Saturday, 15th August there will be Beats by the Beach on The Green (3pm-9pm). This is a free afternoon of upbeat entertainment with a line-up supporting local Norfolk talent including Lottie Gray (3pm), Soul Grooves (5pm) and Crying in Colour (7pm). Sing and dance to your hearts content or just relax and listen to the music.
On Sunday, 26th August the popular Battle of the Bands returns to The Green (12pm-6pm), where local bands battle it out again for a chance to win a slot on stage at next year’s Festival Too in King’s Lynn. Bands from Norfolk, Suffolk, Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire can enter at west-norfolk.gov.uk/hunstantonevents.
On Sunday, 20th September Hunstanton’s very own wacky races return with the famous Soap Box Derby (11am-5pm). Come and watch all the thrills, spills and surprises along the course, new to 2026, as 60 karts hurtle down the course laden with bends, chicanes and jumps. Karts can be viewed close up on The Green prior to racing.
Finally, on Sunday 29th November, you can join in the Christmas Dog Walk & Jumper Competition. Meeting at the Bandstand on The Green at 3pm, the walk loops around to the Ski Café and back. There will also be prizes for the best dressed pooches.
