Contrasting fortunes for local cricket teams in a weekend of rain affected matches and annual Walking Football Tournament comes to Hunstanton

In Division Two of the Norfolk Cricket Alliance, Sandringham & Dersingham 1st XI are certainly serving up some tight and entertaining encounters this season. On Saturday, they slipped to a tense 9 run defeat at home to leaders Topcroft. Lloyd Richmond’s 4/29 and Jithindu Alahakoon’s 3/19 looked to have put the hosts in charge as they restricted the visitors to 129. However, Sandringham’s run chase faultered against some excellent bowling and they were all out for 120 (James Harvers 58). They remain in 5th place.
In the same Division, Bircham 1st XI slipped to an 6 wicket defeat at Great Melton, with the home side chasing down Bircham’s target of 89 with relative ease in just over 13 overs. Tom King’s 2/26 the only highlight.
In Division Three, Snettisham 1st XI continue to lead the way after a 41 run win at Rocklands. Having posted 154 (Jonathan Forder 92), the visitors restricted their opponents to 113 with Kieran Herbert and Danny Arnold with a brace of wickets apiece.
In Division Four, Thornham 1st XI will rue some dropped catches in a 13 run defeat at home to Reepham & Salle, as the visitors target of 169 proved to be just enough as Thornham only managed to reach 158/8. Chris Burgess’s 37 runs and Tom Chudley’s 2/26 the pick of the local outfit’s stats. Thornham remain in 4th, but the loss means they have lost key ground on the leading pack.
In Division One of the Norfolk Cricket League, Snettisham 2nds made it three wins on the trot with a tight 4 wicket win at home to Norwich Association of Malayalees. The home side chased down their target of 105, although it went down to the last ball as Jack Johnson hit the winning runs with partner, veteran Mark Morrison, just managing to scramble over the line for two runs to secure the win. Snettisham are up to 5th.

In Division Two, Sandringham 2nd XI amazingly replicated their 1st XI’s score by losing by 9 runs at New Buckenham. Rasanga Alahakoon’s 4/14 looked to have put the visitors in charge and made it a good day for the Alahakoon household as the home side posted 83. However, Sandringham’s run chase stalled with no player managing to score more than 15 runs as they only managed to post 74.
In Division Four, Bircham 2nd XI were convincingly beaten by 8 wickets at Denver 2nds. The home side chasing down Bircham’s posting of 115 with Mark Fletcher’s 2/23 the only highlight.
In the same Division, Thornham 2nds had an excellent 8 wicket win at local rivals Sandringham & Dersingham 3rds. A brace of wickets apiece for Sean Wright and David Lemoir, aided by Peter Rose’s 50 not out, leading Thornham to a routine win that leaves Sandringham routed at the bottom of the table.
Walking Football Tournament
Heacham Walking Football Club are hosting a tournament this coming Saturday (11am to 2pm) on Hunstanton Recreation Ground.
Teams from Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Norfolk will be attending to contest the 3rd Sunny Hunny WF Cup, won last year by Norwich Soca Seniors. Local MP, James Wild, will be attending with proceeds going to the 8:56 Foundation.
