Good weekend for Sandringham & Dersingham, Bircham, and Thornham senior cricket sides whilst Dersingham Rovers Women FC can hold their heads up high

In Division Two of the Norfolk Cricket Alliance League, Sandringham & Dersingham returned to winning ways with a tight 2 wicket win at Mattishall. They chased down their host’s target of 218 with three overs to spare after a good all round team batting performance. Peter Brasset’s 4 wickets for 56 runs and Chris Smith’s 3 for 42 proving key in restricting the home side to a modest target.
In the same Division, Bircham also secured maximum points with a 60 run win at home to Dereham. Tom King’s 42 runs and 4 wickets apiece for Chris Banks and Liam Crompton the pick of the stats.
In Division Three, Snettisham’s unbeaten start to the season came to an end as they lost by 62 runs at Mundford. A brace of wickets for Damien Twiddy and Thomas Harrison seemed to have restricted the home side to an achievable target of 201. However, despite Aaron Herbert’s half century, Snettisham’s run chase stalled and they were all out for 139. They slip to 2nd in what looks like is going to be a very competitive division indeed.
In Division Four, Thornham managed to stop the rot after two defeats on the trot with a routine 9 wicket win at Bungay. Tom Wallace’s man of the match display (5 for 29) helped restrict the hosts to 90, which Thornham soon chased down in just 19 overs (Nath Linsell 50 not out).

In Division One of the Norfolk Cricket League, Snettisham 2nd XI were bottom a couple of weeks ago as they struggled to make runs. However, they made it two wins from two on Saturday, as a 60 run opening partnership between Adrian Gibson and Zac Fountain set them on the way to posting a respectable 198 runs against Overstrand.

Lloyd Osbourne’s 4 for 37 and Callum Fisher’s 3 for 33 then eased them to a 52 run win. They are up to 6th.

In Division Two, Sandringham 2nd XI were 59 run winners against Aylsham 2nds aided by Nick Bithray’s 70 runs and Ben Padwick’s 6 for 41. In Division Four, game of the weekend saw Bircham 2nds win by just two runs at Thornham 2nds with Shaun Fisher’s impressive 123 not out the pick of the stats as Thornham failed at the last in chasing down the visitor’s total of 272.

Dersingham Rovers Women completed their season with a 2-1 loss at Dereham Ladies on Sunday. Having led Division Three of the Norfolk Women & Girls’ Football League going into May, two crucial defeats against fellow promotion hopefuls have seen them slip to 4th.
Frustratingly, both defeats involved questionable refereeing decisions. Against Dereham they were harshly reduced to ten players as Loretta Burrell was sent off, but nearly salvaged a point only for a heartbreaking late winner from the hosts. Top goalscorer, Emma Leech, capping off a fine season with another goal. It remains to be seen if they will be promoted.
Frustrated manager, Georgie Archer, said, “It shouldn’t have been a red card as Loretta plainly wasn’t the last player as the referee determined and it was a just a tap to the ankle.
"Their player went down pretty dramatically as she had been doing all game. I was even yellow carded for simply asking why it was a red and why the referee wasn’t being consistent with fouls. I am still proud of the girls though in what has been our debut season at this level and we will come back stronger as a consequence.”
