Snettisham Cricket Club continue to lead the way, Norfolk County CC Over 70's playing at Thornham, England Fire Service Bowls team in town and Dersingham Women still eyeing promotion despite controversial loss

In Division Three of the Norfolk Cricket Alliance, Snettisham CC are leaving no stones unturned in their quest to achieve promotion this season, after harshly missing out last year.
They were convincing 5 wicket winners at home to Hethersett & Tas-Valley 2nds on Saturday to remain clear at the top of the table. Hat-tricks for the in-form pair of captain Kieran Herbert and Damien Twiddy restricted the visitors to a modest 219 runs, but a solid all round batting display saw Snettisham chase their target down with relative ease.
In Division Two Sandringham & Dersingham slipped to a tight three run defeat at home to bottom side Great Witchingham 2nds, dropping to 7th. The visitors posted 187 (with a brace of wickets for Lloyd Richmond and Callum Lee), but the home side just failed to chase their target down despite a valiant 76 runs from Sid Dobing.
In the same Division, Bircham were 6 wicket losers at leaders Topcroft. Bircham posted 180 (Tom King 56), but the home side chased the target down with the loss of just 4 wickets (braces for Liam Crompton and Michael Durrant). Bircham are now 8th.
In Division Four Thornham’s good start to the season has stalled somewhat after consecutive defeats, as they lost by 7 wickets at home to Eaton. Nath Tinsell (70) and Ed Barratt (72) looked to have set them on the way, however, the visitors made light work of chasing their target down with the loss of just three wickets. Thornham drop to 5th.
Norfolk CC Over 70’s are playing at Thornham on Thursday afternoon (1pm start) against Lincolnshire in a regional fixture in the National Seniors County Cricket Championships. Their division also includes Suffolk, Essex, Leicestershire and Cambridgeshire. With refreshments available, worth popping down for a look this one.
Bowls
The English Fire Service Bowls Team were in town on Sunday as they took on Cliff Parade Bowls Club. The team travel across the country playing friendly charity games, raising money for the Fire Fighters Charity.
Hunstanton Fire & Rescue Service also came down to support the occasion, making their engine available for children to view. At the end of the game the crew even enjoyed a few ends of mastering bowls themselves under the watchful eye of mascot Smurf who was on hand to make sure everything was in order.
On a hot afternoon the English Fire Service team managed to win 129-70 in a competitive but friendly affair.
Fire Service Bowls Club secretary, Angela Kenny, said, “It was an absolute pleasure to play at one of the most scenic bowls venues in the country and we thank our hosts for another enjoyable afternoon.
"The Fire Service has recognised that bowls is a great sport for all socially whilst the competitive team spirit is positive for mental health. Bowls was added to the Fire Service Sports & Social agenda to encourage everyone to join a sport that improves wellbeing.”
Football
Having led the table a few weeks ago, Dersingham Women are now in a perilous position of dropping several places in the table where losing out on promotion would be unjustifiably harsh. A 5-3 loss to Bungay on Sunday means they can no longer win the title, in fact they could now drop down to 5th if other results don’t go their way.
Despite a good performance against Bungay, Dersingham were not helped by some absolutely horrendous refereeing decisions, meaning they slipped to a crucial defeat. Goals from Emma Leech (2) and Eliza McDonald proving in vain in the end when playing against 12 players.

It looked liked a title decider would be on the cards this coming Thursday in their final league game at Dereham, but now Derse are fighting for a top three finish.
It is a disappointing end to the season for manager, Georgie Archer, and her cohorts who have certainly proved their worth in what is their debut season at this level.
