Good weekend for Snettisham and Thornham Cricket Clubs whilst the Hanseatic Festival of Watersports returned to the King's Lynn quayside

In Division Two of the Norfolk Cricket Alliance League, with high expectations at the start of the season, both Bircham and Sandringham & Dersingham 1st XIs are finding life tough.
Bircham have slipped to the foot of the table after a 4 wicket home loss to Garboldisham 2nds who had actually started the day bottom. The visitors chasing down the home side’s posting of 156 (Liam Crompton 30), in just over 39 overs.
Sandringham & Dersingham were also on the end of a 4 wicket defeat to visitors Dereham. The home side’s score of 121 (Darren Bunn 28) never seemed quite enough and so it proved as Dereham soon chased their target down in just over 28 overs despite Chris Smith’s 3-29.
In Division Three, Snettisham 1st XI now have clear daylight between themselves and their main challengers after a 49 run win at Bradfield 2nds as Mundford slipped up.
Snettisham posted a whopping 275/4 (Aaron Herbert 118, James Hearmon 85 not out) in their allotted 40 overs. Kieran Herbert’s 3-17 helped keep a spirited Bradfield run chase in check as Snettisham eased to another victory.
In Division Four, Thornham 1st XI returned to winning ways with a convincing 92 run win at Norwich 3rds. Posting a respectable target of 196 (Chris Burgess 104) Thornham restricted the home side’s run chase (Adam Rose 4-24, Tom Chudley 3-21), to reignite a promotion challenge.
In Division One of the Norfolk Cricket League, not to be outdone by their 1st XI, Snettisham 2nds posted a huge 354/7 (Jonathan Forder 178, Danny Suckling 106) at home to Ketteringham Hall. That target never seemed in doubt as the visitors fell 132 runs short (Finlay Herbert 3-31). Having been rooted at the bottom of the table in May and having found runs hard to get, they certainly seem to have found their mojo as they climb the table.
In Division Two, Sandringham & Dersingham 2nds made it a bad day for the local club as they too slipped to a 4 wicket defeat at Downham Stow 4ths. In Division Four, Bircham 2nds were also beaten in an 8 wicket loss at Mundford 2nds despite Shaun Fisher’s 59 runs. Meanwhile, Thornham 2nd XI capped off a fine weekend for the club with a 4 wicket win at home to Narborough 2nds. The visitors were restricted to a modest 159 runs (Micah Randall 3-27) which Thornham soon chased down in just over 30 overs (Peter Rose 62 not out).
On Friday, Thornham CC take on the 8:56 Foundation charity cricket side from 6pm at the Thornham ‘Oval’. There will be a barbecue and refreshments available. The charity side take on all local clubs throughout the Summer, raising money for mental health & support services.
Water Sports
The annual Hanseatic Festival of Watersports - one of the biggest in Europe - returned to the King’s Lynn quayside on the River Great Ouse over the weekend with water-ski, jet-ski and powerboat racing. The popular event attracts participants from across the world and is a key part of the international water sports agenda.

The action packed weekend, which is free to attend, attracted thousands of spectators who line the quayside whilst enjoying the numerous food stalls and bars on offer.
On the Saturday evening, the event took on more of a festival atmosphere with bands playing and a fireworks display. Organiser, Tom Lumley, was pleased with this year’s event which is now a regular on the King’s Lynn itinerary of Summer events to attend saying, “Thank you to all the racers and spectators who attended, we are already looking forward to next year’s event!”
