Nelson's Journey, which supports children and young people with bereavement, given the donation
Gary Stevens from Nelson’s Journey says, “This money is absolutely life changing for the charity. This will enable us to continue our work with the children and young people of Norfolk, it’s an amazing sum of money and we can’t thank you all enough.”
The 32 thousand pounds is from Norfolk County Council Reuse Shops, which sell second hand donated items.
There are shops at 14 recycling centres, and staff across the sites nominate and vote for a local charity to receive a share of the sales.
The cheque was presented to Nelson’s Journey by Councillor Pat Gould, who adds, “It's an honour to present this money to Nelson’s Journey, a fantastic local charity.
"Reuse shops are really popular with Norfolk’s residents, and they help to stop many items from being thrown away unnecessarily – while also raising money money for fantastic causes."
Last year the shops prevented 1,394 tonnes of reusable items from being thrown away, and to date have raised over £155,000 for local charities.
