Hanse Festival returns to the town’s historic waterfront this weekend
The Hanse Festival promises a packed programme of activities for all ages.
Cllr Sue Lintern, Cabinet member for Culture and Events, says, “Last year we marked 20 years since King’s Lynn rejoined the modern international Hanseatic League — a milestone that reminds us just how deeply our maritime heritage runs.
"As one of England’s original Hanseatic ports from the 13th century onwards, our town is home to the last remaining Hanseatic warehouse in the country, built in 1475. It’s a legacy we’re incredibly proud of."
“This year’s festival brings that history to life with family activities across the town", Cllr Lintern continues, "Lithuanian dancing, traditional shanty songs, a vibrant flag procession - and even a few pirates roaming about for good measure. It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our heritage together.
“We’re inviting children to embrace their inner sea‑faring scallywag and come dressed as pirates. There’ll be prizes for the best costumes, so we’re expecting some truly fearsome little buccaneers.”

Hanse weekend begins on Saturday (23rd May) with an exhibition at True’s Yard Fisherfolk Museum.
On Sunday, visitors can enjoy river trips aboard the Baden Powell, the colourful flag procession setting off from Tuesday Market Place at 11:45am, and a wide range of activities across the town, including at Hanse House, The Minster, Rathskeller Beer Garden, Marriotts Warehouse, South Quay, Clifton House, Stories of Lynn and Saturday Market Place.

The festival promises something for everyone, with fun children’s activities at multiple locations and a full programme designed to celebrate King’s Lynn’s proud Hanseatic heritage.
