The smell is intoxicating. There’s nothing quite like it is there - freshly picked strawberries.

8 year old Marnie and her sister Millar, who’s 5, are here with their grandmother to pick their own.

“Because it’s a nice day today, and strawberries are my favourite fruit, they are really sweet,” Marnie tells me.

We’re given a row to pick, and as I follow the pair I’m taken back to my childhood. Warm summer days, the wonderful smell - and a lot of taste testing.

“Yum,” says Marine as she eats a freshly picked one, “Millar, you have to taste them!”

“I think she’s tasted quite a few already,” laughs her grandmother.

By the giant strawberry shack, where there are mouthwatering ones ready to buy, I meet a mum who’s stopped for few punnets.

“They’re really good,” she says as she tastes one, “I have a few strawberry fiends in my car, we just thought, lovely, beautiful, freshly picked strawberries - let’s take them to the beach.”

I ask Kevin, another customer, what he’s going to do with his. “Stuff them down my neck!” He laughs, “I’ve bought the cream already.”

The strawberry field, along the Dersingham Bypass, is open daily from 9-6 throughout the summer.

As I pay for mine, Marnie and Millar are happily looking at the amount they've picked.

“I’ll probably finish them this afternoon,” Marnie says.

Almost half of my punnet didn't survive the journey home.  A strawberry, that tastes like a strawberry, is quite honestly irresistible.
