May was another busy and rewarding month at Glebe House School, with pupils embracing opportunities to learn, compete, explore and contribute to the wider community.
From coastal adventures and wildlife encounters to sporting achievements, historical discoveries and much-loved community events, children across the school enjoyed a rich variety of experiences. Whether challenging themselves in the Inter House Triathlon, stepping back into Victorian classrooms or exploring Derbyshire's history and landscapes, pupils continued to demonstrate curiosity, resilience and enthusiasm in all they undertook.
Beach School Adventures
As the weather warmed up, Beach School replaced Forest School for the summer term, giving pupils the chance to make the most of Norfolk’s stunning coastline. Children in Divisions IV and VI spent time exploring the dunes, digging for treasures, discovering shells and rocks, and taking part in team activities. Alongside the fun, there were opportunities for scientific investigation and geographical learning. A particular highlight was a visit from the local RNLI lifeboat crew, who taught pupils about beach safety and their hovercraft, inspiring plenty of thoughtful questions.
School Games Gold Award Success
Glebe House School is delighted to have once again been awarded the School Games Gold Mark, recognising its commitment to sport and physical activity. The national award celebrates schools that provide opportunities for participation, competition and leadership in sport. Throughout the year, Glebe pupils have represented the school in numerous local events, while also helping to host competitions for other schools. The award reflects the enthusiasm of pupils, staff and volunteers alike and highlights the important role sport continues to play within the wider school community.
Inter House Triathlon Returns
The Glebe House School Inter House Triathlon returned this May following its successful debut last year, with more than 75 pupils taking part.
Blessed with warm weather and supported by enthusiastic families cheering from the sidelines, competitors challenged themselves across swimming, cycling and running disciplines. For some, the goal was to improve on last year's performance; for others, it was simply about finding the courage to tackle something new.
Particularly inspiring was the participation of younger pupils, encouraged by older competitors who led by example. The event highlighted determination, resilience and teamwork, providing a fitting and uplifting conclusion to a busy half term.
Great Cressingham - A Victorian School Experience
Division VI stepped back in time during a fascinating visit to Great Cressingham Village School, where they experienced life as Victorian pupils. Under the watchful eyes of Victorian schoolmistresses, the children practised writing on slates, used dip pens and copybooks, and took part in traditional lessons including sewing, singing and drawing.
They also enjoyed playground games from the era, learning the skills needed to keep hoops rolling and tops spinning. The visit brought history to life and gave pupils a memorable insight into how education has changed over time.
Hunstanton Fun Dog Show Returns
The annual Hunstanton Fun Dog Show once again brought together families, dog lovers and members of the wider community for a wonderful day of entertainment and friendly competition. With twelve fun classes ranging from Waggiest Tail to Best Fancy Dress, there was plenty to enjoy both in and around the show ring. Visitors also had opportunities to try Hoopers Agility and a fastest recall challenge. The event welcomed many current and former Glebe families and provided a fantastic opportunity to celebrate community spirit while raising funds and awareness.
Watatunga Wildlife Reserve - A Safari on the Norfolk Coast
Division II swapped the classroom for a safari truck during an exciting visit to Watatunga Wildlife Reserve as part of their Geography studies on Kenya.
Pupils spotted a variety of animals, including buffalo, wildebeest, bongos and the reserve’s namesake, the elusive sitatunga. They also enjoyed meeting Bentley the crane and learning more about wildlife conservation. Handling animal skins, antlers and horns afterwards helped bring their learning to life. Staff at the reserve were particularly impressed by the children's excellent behaviour and impressive knowledge of the animals they encountered.
Derbyshire Residential - History, Adventure and Teamwork
Division V enjoyed a memorable Humanities residential visit to Derbyshire, combining historical discovery with outdoor adventure.
Visits to Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Eyam Museum helped reinforce classroom learning about the Tudor and Stuart periods, while opportunities to explore the story of the Great Plague brought history vividly to life. For many pupils, however, the highlight was tackling climbing and abseiling challenges at Burbage Edge. Throughout the trip, the children demonstrated resilience, teamwork and encouragement for one another, proving excellent ambassadors for the school.
