Borough Council puts on Peter Piper Picked Some Litter activity
If you were out in Hunstanton yesterday, you may have seen an 18-metre-long whale on The Green.
The inflatable mammal was part of a free family event to highlight the impact plastic has on our environment and beaches.
Children took part in litter picking, there were workshops and various competitions - and those taking part could step inside the whale for an interactive show - highlighting the impact of plastic pollution on the environment.
Hunstanton’s first Borrow/Play/Return box has also been launched, a council spokesperson says, “Families can leave beach toys in a designated box for others to use, rather than abandoning them on the beach, putting them in the bin or leaving them to end up in the sea.”
There are plenty of other free events throughout the summer.
Every Thursday there's a Family Fun Day throughout the Summer Holidays on The Green (11am-3pm). Strange Fascination Theatre will be putting on Hansel & Gretel and Little Red Riding Hood shows, whilst the traditional Punch & Judy will be back, as Umbrella Parties present ‘Lia’s Big Bubble Show’ with workshops, games and more.
On Thursday, 13th August (11am to 3pm), there is the Mad Tea Party on The Green. You can join Alice as she explores Wonderland. There will also be shows throughout the afternoon with puppetry, games and riddles, whilst there will be free Teacup rides and giant chess available. Characters from the world of Lewis Carroll will also be in attendance. People are encouraged to don their whackiest outfits as they are all mad here!
On Saturday, 15th August there will be Beats by the Beach on The Green (3pm-9pm). This is a free afternoon of upbeat entertainment with a line-up supporting local Norfolk talent including Lottie Gray (3pm), Soul Grooves (5pm) and Crying in Colour (7pm). Sing and dance to your hearts content or just relax and listen to the music.
On Sunday, 26th August the popular Battle of the Bands returns to The Green (12pm-6pm), where local bands battle it out again for a chance to win a slot on stage at next year’s Festival Too in King’s Lynn.
